Smiffys pass Which? safety testing including BRC code of practice

Which? warns parents to be wary this Halloween, as a snapshot investigation has found some children’s costumes by other brands fail to meet fire safety testing standards.

At Smiffys we take product safety very seriously. All our children costumes comply with the safety standards required by law (EN71 regulations). We also voluntarily adhere to Nightwear (Flammability) Standards BS 5722 and BRC code of conduct, to ensure our children’s costumes exceed safety standards.

Counterfeit goods which are sold via online marketplaces and fail to comply with health and safety regulations are a huge risk. It is important consumers are vigilant as any products which do not meet these high standards could be dangerous. A lot of rogue traders will import directly from China and pass-off counterfeit items as the genuine brand. If in doubt, check for the following and always ensure you are dealing a reputable online retailer or shop on the high street. Remember, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is!

Always look for:

  • Branded packaging with insert card including legal copywrite (not just a polybag)
  • Correct labelling; woven labels sewn in with care instructions and safety warnings
  • CE marks
  • Importers details
